Description
n 2005, after celebrating five Top 20 singles, a #1 single in “Everything You Want” and a #4 for “You’re A God”, the group known as Vertical Horizon took a self imposed hiatus to pursue other interests. In 2007, recharged and refocused the band began writing and recording their new album, Burning The Days, slated for release on September 22nd, 2009.
“We realized there was just more for us to do, we went to work,” said Vertical Horizon lead vocalist and lead guitarist Matt Scannell. Afforded the luxury to nurture those moments of inspiration, the album, according to the band, “is sonically as good as anything we have ever done. We take great pride in this album and hope it will resonate with our fans.”
Recorded at Scannell’s home studio in Los Angeles, Burning The Days, represents a renewed sense of creativity for the band. The CD features 12 new tracks, including “Save Me From Myself,” their first single in nearly three years, on which legendary Rush drummer Neil Peart appears. Peart also plays on “Even Now” and “Welcome To The Bottom,” while Grammy Award-winner Richard Marx plays piano on “Here” and produces two of Scannell’s lead vocal tracks.
While “Save Me From Myself,” addresses struggle and personal demons, “The Lucky One,” one of the album’s most upbeat tracks, offers a look at Scannell’s ability to finally acknowledge happiness. Other highlights include “Afterglow”, “All Is Said And Done” and “The Middle Ground.”
To support the album’s September 22nd release, the band will be doing targeted dates throughout the summer with a national tour in the Fall. For more information go to www.verticalhorizon.com.
